Cherry picker hire in Limassol — what to know

Also called: cherry picker · boom lift · aerial work platform · truck-mounted lift · spider lift · Genie, JLG, Haulotte

A truck-mounted lift standing on a Limassol street or pavement needs the municipality's road-occupation permit — about 20 working days, the operator applies. On your own land, in a car park or inside a site fence no permit is needed.

Limassol has the tallest buildings on the island and the most facades to look after: the towers and hotels on the seafront, the blocks in Germasogeia, Neapolis, Agios Nikolaos and Mesa Geitonia, the shopfronts on Makarios and Anexartisias, the offices around the Marina and the old port. Air-conditioning units on the fifth floor, render and paint, signs and glazing, gutters and roof edges, the palms along the promenade and in the hotel gardens — that is the cherry picker's day here.

For a block of flats on a side street, a 20–28 m truck-mounted lift with its driver and the permit; for a villa garden in Agios Tychonas or Pyrgos, or the inside of a warehouse in Ypsonas, a self-propelled boom delivered on a low-loader, 12–16 m, no permit. Say the working height and where it stands, and the operator sends the right one.

Questions

What people ask before their first booking.

How high a lift do I need?

Working height is the height of the job plus about 2 m for the person in the basket. A house or a shop of 2 floors needs up to 12 m, a block of 3–4 floors 12–16 m, 5–6 floors about 22 m. The "Help me choose" link next to the question picks it from the building.

Does it come with an operator?

A truck-mounted cherry picker comes with its driver, who runs the boom. A self-propelled boom lift can come on its own if you have a trained operator of your own — say so in the request.

Will the lift stand on a public road or pavement?

Then the municipality must issue a permit first — in Limassol about 20 working days, in Nicosia a few days on side streets. On your own land no permit is needed. Tick the road question in the form and the operator takes it from there.

The ground is soil or gravel. Is that a problem?

No, but say so: a diesel rough-terrain machine goes there; an electric one needs a flat, firm floor. Indoors the electric one is the only choice — no fumes, non-marking tyres.

What is the minimum hire?

Usually half a day for a truck-mounted lift, a full day for a self-propelled one; the operator confirms the hours and the price before anything is agreed.
